Full rewires

Full rewires for houses and commercial premises, from first fix through to a new consumer unit and certificate.
Survey and written price first
New consumer unit with RCD protection
Electrical Installation Certificate on completion
A full rewire replaces all the cables, accessories and the consumer unit in a property. It is usually needed when the wiring is decades old, has rubber or fabric-covered cable, has no earth on the lighting circuits, or when an EICR has found too many faults to repair one by one. It is also the right time to add sockets, move switches and plan lighting for how you use each room now. The job starts with a survey: we walk the property with you, agree where sockets, switches and lights go, and price it in writing. First fix is the messy stage, when floorboards are lifted, cables are run and walls are chased for new boxes. After plastering, second fix fits the sockets, switches and light fittings and connects a new consumer unit with RCD protection. Every circuit is then tested and you receive an Electrical Installation Certificate. A typical three-bedroom house takes around a week of electrical work, plus time for plastering, and is easiest when the property is empty. The price depends on the size of the property, the number of points, how the floors and walls are built, and extras such as downlights, outside sockets or a supply for a heat pump or hot tub. Send the number of bedrooms, the age of the property, whether it will be lived in during the work, and photos of the consumer unit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I stay in the house during a rewire?
It is possible, but the job is quicker when the property is empty. If you are living there, we work room by room and aim to leave the kitchen and at least one circuit working at the end of each day.
How do I know if my house needs a rewire?
Warning signs include old round-pin or brown bakelite sockets, cables with black rubber or fabric sheathing, a fuse box with rewireable fuses, and sockets or lights that scorch or flicker. An EICR will tell you for certain.
Will there be much mess?
First fix means lifting floorboards and chasing walls, so expect dust and some making good. Floors and furniture are covered, but walls will need filling and decorating afterwards.

A rewire plan should follow the way people will use the property, not the position of the furniture on the day somebody walks around with a notepad.
