Hot tub power wire-up by CAN Electrical Contractors

Partial rewires

Rewiring part of a property, such as a floor, an extension or a few circuits, without the cost and disruption of a full rewire.
Single rooms, floors or circuits
Existing wiring checked first
Certificate for all new work
A partial rewire replaces the wiring in one area of a property, or on particular circuits, while the rest stays as it is. Common reasons are an EICR that has flagged one circuit, a loft or garage conversion, an extension, a single room being renovated, or sockets and lights that need moving or adding. It can also mean running a dedicated supply to a hot tub, a garden room or a heat pump. The first job is checking the existing installation, because new work has to connect to wiring and a consumer unit that are safe to extend. If the consumer unit has no RCD protection or no spare ways, it may need replacing at the same time, and we will tell you before you commit. Where the older wiring is poor throughout, we say so rather than patching it, and price both options. New circuits are installed, tested and certified, and the parts of the existing installation they connect to are tested too. You receive an Electrical Installation Certificate for new circuits, or a Minor Works Certificate for smaller alterations to an existing circuit. The price depends on how many circuits and points are involved, how the cables can be routed, and whether floors or ceilings are already open. Tell us which rooms or circuits are involved, what building work is happening at the same time, and send photos of the consumer unit and the area.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is a partial rewire enough?
When the rest of the wiring is in good condition and tests well. If most of the circuits are old or failing, a full rewire is usually better value over time.
Can a partial rewire be done during a renovation?
Yes, and that is the best time. Running cables while walls and floors are open saves making good later, so let us know your builder's or plasterer's dates.
Will my consumer unit need changing?
Only if it cannot safely take the new circuits, for example if it has no RCD protection or no space. We check it before quoting.
