Downlights and under-cabinet lighting
Planned around your kitchen fitter
A kitchen refit is the moment to sort the electrics properly, because the units and worktops are coming out anyway. A kitchen rewire covers the circuits a modern kitchen needs: a dedicated circuit for the cooker or induction hob, sockets above the worktop where you will actually use them, switched spurs for the dishwasher, washing machine, fridge and extractor, and lighting. We often fit ceiling downlights with under-cabinet lights over the worktop, and can wire plinth lighting or a supply to an island. The work is planned around your kitchen fitter. First fix happens once the old kitchen is out and before plastering, with cables run to the positions on your kitchen plan. Second fix comes after the units and worktops are in, when sockets, switches, appliance points and light fittings go on. Induction hobs need the right cable size back to the consumer unit, so we check the existing circuit and consumer unit before you order appliances. Everything is tested at the end and certified. The price depends on the number of sockets and appliance points, the type and number of lights, whether the cooker circuit needs replacing, and the state of the consumer unit. Send us the kitchen plan or the fitter's drawing, the model of hob or oven you are buying, and a photo of the consumer unit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a new circuit for an induction hob?
Often, yes. Many induction hobs draw more than an old cooker circuit was designed for, so we check the cable size and the protective device before connecting one.
When should the electrician come in during a kitchen refit?
Twice: once after the old kitchen is stripped out and before plastering, and again once the units and worktops are fitted.
Can you fit the lighting as well?
Yes. Ceiling downlights, under-cabinet strips and plinth lights can all be planned at first fix so the cables end up in the right places.
